Yashica Mat, f/5.6, 1/125, Fuji Neopan 100 ISO – 120mm film.
I shot this portrait during my visit to Goa in the November of 2009. At about 6 ‘o clock in the evening, he was on his way home after a hard day in the seas, fishing. He reminds me of a gentleman I’d shot in Maharashtra, half a decade ago. I see many similarities in indigenous people from the west coast of India.
Canon AE-1P, f/1.8, 1/60, Kodak T400CN – 35mm film.

The intensity of both the photos is so amazing and yes so similar
Thanks, Amra.
Very cool. It is as if the guy in the second pics head is growing away from his body.
Thanks, Bearman.
It does seem that way, doesn’t it?
The subject in the second photo looks like he’s had a hard life
He is the elder most living person in his village. A village that was isolated until 3 odd decades ago simply because no roads led in and out of it!
Your artwork/photography is so powerful and beautiful!
Thanks, Patty.
interesting to see the similarity. the second pic is brilliant!!
I find the second shot very powerful. Bearman’s comment made me see him as a tree.
@JUHI
@Pamela Villars
As much as I like the second shot, I love the first one, and for many reasons. Maybe the second shot is taking everything away from the first?
good pics…you take only B&W ones?
No, but BW excites me the most.
great pics as always.. if i were to pick one of the two, i’d pick the first one..
thanks, Mandira
Wonderful photos.
thanks, Nicole.
Tx for stopping by. I’m glad u did it, ’cause now I can see your great pictures.
Rock on!
I’m glad you did too, Arlindo.
Thanks.
Love the way you use light in your photographs.
I like playing with natural light.
Thanks, siri.
This is the first time I have landed on you blog and I am damn impressed.
The pictures are amazing.
Wow!!
Thanks, Dev.
what incredible sadness i see in that man’s eyes, and physical pain, pain can wear you down aye? both pictures are just… alot… well done
The grass is always greener on the other side!
One a fisherman, the other a farmer, I’m sure they’ve had to work hard all their lives. And they’re healthier as compared to their urban contemporaries. Perhaps.
Thanks, Elaine.
It’s a hard job to stay alive
It is.
Beautifully shot images and thanks for your positive feedback.
Thanks, Laura.
Wonderful photographs but should I expect anything else from you? Not at all! Well done, I love this site. Anne
Thanks, Anne.
I saw this Sebastiao Salgado exhibit in the days of my impressionable youth … seeing your photos I’m pleased to say I am just as impressionable as ever.
Thanks, Mitzi.
Great pictures..they speak more than words
Thanks, Maverickshree.
love b/w pic at all time, so classically define everything on it in a real good way. nice shoot.
These shots are brilliant. In fact, all of your photos are.
Even just looking at these makes me long for travel…
Thanks, bschooled.
I hope you travel soon.
The 2nd man looks like a turtle head & neck stretched out of it’s shell. Elderly people make such fascinating photographic subjects. Their faces reflect the experience & wisdom of their years.
Absolutely!
What an amazing face! So full of life’s stories…
Thanks, Suldog.
nice shots, especially the second one
Thanks, irja.
Your photography is brilliant
SO moving
goes SO deep
thank you for visiting my Magpie’s Nest!
oxo
Patty, Thanks.
Delicate, rugged, beautiful and haunting – all at the same time.
These are great! Love the personalities photographed. Hopefully I can get great shots like this when I go to India soon!!
I hope you do!
Thanks, When Giants Meet.
Great portraiture.
Thx!
Something abt the grandeur in the lilt of his head made me scroll back to this picture again and again. The credit goes to you the photographer of course, in capturing something surreal that I can’t seem to put into words quite fitting as yet.
I was pondering over the photographer him/her-self.. but the blog had not much to reveal. Should I suppose mach 3 means the razor for men? [bad joke I suppose.. kindly excuse]
*insert angelic emoticon right about here)
Thanx for the votes, btw. Ive been posting thanx via the forum topic medium for im new and not really sure how else to respond to the support by others such as your self!
